Philadelphia Skyline at DuskSeptember 18, 2006

Philadelphia Skyline at Dusk

EXIF:     Aperture Priority, Pattern Metering, EV +1, 1 sec, F/8, ISO-200, 55 mm (88 mm equivalent)
Camera/Lens:     Canon EOS 350D Digital Rebel XT, Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6
Location:     Philadelphia, PA
Notes:     On Friday night, the clouds over Philadelphia looked like they might make for an interesting evening sky, so I took my camera and tripod out onto the South Street Bridge.

My tripod is a little wobbly, to say the least, because it's a little travel tripod that weighs less than a pound. So the wind and the shaking of the bridge were really challenging. Next time I will definitely go out with a sturdier tripod, but this is the one that fits in my bag and I was on my way out to dinner so I didn't want to be lugging lots of gear.

At first, the skies were mostly blue and grey, like in this photo, but it was fun to watch as it got darker and the city lights really started to stand out. And then, just before it got really dark, the skies became pink, I'll show these photos later this week. Trust me, they get better.

The colors are wonderful. I like the way the pink in the sky is echoed by the red-brown somewhat pink colors of the buildings.

Hi Tamara,

I didn't see a link to contact you so I'm posting here to your comments. I am located in southern California but I have a client in Philadelphia and I need to find equipment for a photo shoot.

The reason this is problematic for me is that the company wants really large prints made of some of the shots. I'd like to accomodate them but in order to work with my large art printer I need to make sure the shoot is done with a canon eos 1ds mk11 so that there's enough pixels. The large prints are for a showpiece and they can't be grainy.

I'm having trouble locating anyone in the Philadelphia area that rents this type of equipment. Do you know where I should start looking in your area since I'm not having any luck searching online? I'm just not familiar enough with your area to know who to call.

I love your pics of the skyline. If you are in the area of 2000 Market Street and would like to take an exterior shot I'd be happy to feature it on my website. http://2000marketstreet.net.

Although it is a corporate site, we are looking into ways to promote artists that would like to contribute positive photography and creative writing about the building. We'd like to include a special section if we have enough interest.

Thank you,
Sandra Rosenbaum
