Abandoned in LeipzigJuly 17, 2006

Abandoned Building

EXIF:     Aperture Priority, Pattern Metering, EV 0, 1/250 sec, F/8.0, ISO-400, 55 mm (85 mm equivalent)
Camera/Lens:     Canon EOS 350D Digital Rebel XT, Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6
Location:     Leipzig, Germany
Notes:     I'm skipping ahead in our photos from Germany to the last place we visited. Now that the World Cup is over, all of my fan photos seem a little less relevant. And I really wanted to highlight Leipzig anyway, which turned out to be my favorite of the cities we went to.

Maybe I liked it because we were staying with a friend who didn't drag us to all the tourist sites but instead took us to his local bar / old movie theater where we ate, drank, and watched the soccer games on the big screen. Or maybe I liked it because it's the first place where we weren't running around on a schedule or rushing to get to a game. Or maybe I just really liked it - it's old and run-down, but yet vibrant at the same time.

Again, not surprisingly, I love the contrast (or should i say sharpness?) in this photo. It's a little grainy, no? It works really well here.

Old buildings really seem to have a strength of character that allows them to still look dignified even when neglected. I doubt modern buildings will fare so well.
