MukJanuary 26, 2006

Location:     Joung Kak, Baltimore, MD
Camera:     Canon PowerShot Pro1
EXIF:     1/2 sec, F/2.8, Super Macro feature
Notes:     I realize that this probably looks disgusting to anyone who's never tried this before, especially being such a closeup shot, but trust me it's really good! It is an appetizer I tried for the first time a couple of nights ago at a local Korean restaurant. I think this is called "muk", but it's sort of hard to look up when I don't know what to call it. (If anyone has any idea, please let me know!)

I expected the gelatin to be almost tasteless, with all the flavor coming from the top garnish, but it actually tasted like sesame and the garnish just added the right amount of spiciness. Definitely worth a try (as is pretty much everything from this restaurant).

yeah, you guessed it. that picture does kinda turn me off from trying "muk". although its a good picture nonetheless...whenever i take pictures of what most people consider unusual things or at unusual times (like in a restaurant for example), i always get embarrassed and i try to talk myself out of taking the picture. does it ever bother you at all?

Actually, I disagree with phil on this one. Your photo actually makes it look better than it probably really looks! I'd change the name for marketing purposes though...muk just doesn't seem like something I'd choose off a menu!

Beautiful shot. "Muk" is a rather unfortunate name for this dish. Ikea have marshmallows called "skum" and I thought that was bad enough.

yea it's called "Mooooook" haha with an extended oo sound. It's usally made out of chestnut, but these days people make it with different thing (thus the variety in colors)
