Red and GreenDecember 13, 2005

Location:     Baltimore, MD
Camera:     Canon PowerShot Pro1
EXIF:     1/2 sec, F/8.0, 23 mm, Super Macro feature
Notes:     I took this photo as part of a practice run for Requestock (currently access is members only). The faux request was for a bunch of colorful toy balls that was well lit, covered most of the frame, and included lots of colors. Well, I will confess that I didn't follow the instructions all that well since I included only two colors and I didn't completely fill the frame. I figured that since it was just for the test of uploading to the site and using the commenting features that I didn't have to follow the instructions 100%.

But when I uploaded the photo there I forgot to convert to sRGB, so what's showing there is a really drab version of what you see here. I was disappointed by that, but it made me realize what I've been doing wrong when I've had problems with the colors that are displayed here. I have recently switched to editing my photos using the Adobe RGB (1998) color space, but yet web browsers use the sRGB color profile. If I could explain this better I would, but gist is that if an image has the Adobe RGB (1998) profile but a web browser assumes the file is in sRGB, you get a mismatch and things look washed out, especially reds. So I guess what I need to do from now on is convert images for the web to sRGB so that they'll look the same to you as they do to me when I'm looking at them in Photoshop.

There's so much to learn... Digital processing is so complicated. :)
