The one in the middle on the top kind of bothers me. I don't know why. What kind of fish is it?

That one bothers me too, not because of how it looks, but because of how it feels when you eat it. I'm not all that fond of hard and chewy sushi. I think it is squid.

But this is truly the grossest sushi I've ever seen/tried (sea urchin). I was surprised to find that it's considered a real treat in Japan, and although you won't usually see it on the conveyor belts in the restaurants, people will specifically request it. Blech. It's so not my thing.

If you couldn't tell from what is featured in this photo, salmon is my absolute favorite sushi.

If you also couldn't tell from the length of this comment, sushi is my absolute favorite food. :)

However, I was wary of posting this photo because it's such a close up and the sushi is literally glistening - I was wondering how people would feel about it. I already got one email from someone commenting on its rawness. :)

food is not easy to photograph, but you've done really well here. Very soft light...

hmm, salmon sushi... :)

As a fan of good lighting, I had to add that I also think the very pretty light is very flattering to the sushi. I see the point about the glistening rawness...I think this photo would is probably appealing to people like sushi.

Has great lighting, great color, and an interesting pattern. Nicely done.

i'm not really a big fan of sushi, but those sushi looks really yummy! great lighting here, but a photo of just the salmons would be really interesting.

Chiaroscuro and others who noticed the light - I was fortunate enough to be seated at a table next to a window, so this is real sunlight! I was so excited by this opportunity, that I made everyone wait to eat while I took pictures of the sushi. In fact, out of view, there are several hovering chopsticks surrounding this platter of sushi. :)

Great textures, and the light hits them just right. Beautiful.

Yum! I LOVE sushi and you've outdone yourself here - it's a beautiful portrait of it. I love salmon too; and have you tried eel yet? It's surprisingly fantastic.
