Polarized

EXIF:     Aperture Priority, Pattern Metering, EV 0, 1/40 sec, F/8, ISO-100, 22 mm (35 mm equivalent)
Camera/Lens:     Canon EOS 350D Digital Rebel XT, Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6
Location:     Winter Garden, FL
Notes:     This tree is in my husband's parents' front yard, taken just as the sun was setting.

My father-in-law was telling me during our trip that black and white is unforgiving, and although I am not entirely sure what he means by that, I am sure he is right. I think it might be even worse with a digital camera, but I am not sure. It just seems to be hard to maintain much detail in the highlights (I had to use some PS brushes to bring back detail on the bare branches at the top), though in this case I think the polarizer helped by really darkening the blue sky and creating more contrast.

Very dramatic. Ordinary subject matter (plant life and clouds), but the contrast of darks and lights and the interesting texture brought out by all the various tones of gray work to make the composition very striking.

Glad you like it! The polarizer really helped here.
