Fifa PhotographersJuly 02, 2006

Fifa_photographers

Notes:     These photographers must have been having the time of their lives. At the beginning of every game, the teams line up while their national anthems are played, and the photographers are corralled out onto a platform on the field in front of the players (that's the Brazilian team in the background). Immediately afterwards the photographers run to their seats at the corner of the field, set up their monopods and crouch over their cameras for the next 90 minutes. It was fun watching them to see what they were shooting, and to watch as they all switched to the cameras by their sides with the much more modest telephoto lenses whenever a player would stand right in front of them for a throw in or corner kick.

(I noticed quite a lot of Canon gear, all digital of course.)

Location:     Olympic Stadium, Berlin, Germany

Gosh, those are *huge* lenses. I suppose a lot of the bulk is the lens hood or they'd never be able to hold them up so casually!
