hibiscus silhouette




Notes:     I desaturated this photo to remove the hints of color from the background, but created the silhouette in camera by metering for the bright sunshine hitting the wall behind the flower. I then further brightened the image by increasing the exposure in the RAW editor by pushing the exposure to +0.70 and the brightness to 150, but reduced the contrast to 0 to keep the petals from being completely blackened.
Location:     Woodstock, NY
Camera:     Canon EOS 300D Digital Rebel, Sigma 55-200mm f/4-5.6
EXIF:     Aperture Priority, Pattern Metering, EV 0, 1/200 sec, F/11, ISO-100, 94 mm (150 mm equivalent)

Nice. I like how, even if it is a silhouette, the petals are still a little translucent (as opposed to the leaves completely black. I also like how the background frames the flower.
