spring shadows

Notes:     More loveliness from the 50/1.4. I really wasn't sure I would be able to see the difference between the Sigma 18-50mm f/3.5-5.6 at 50 mm and the Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 that I borrowed from Chiaroscuro, or that if I did see a difference it would simply be about sharpness. I had read about some lenses producing "nicer" images and I couldn't imagine what that really meant, but wow, that 50/1.4 lens produces lovely, lovely images. The color (which obviously you can't see here), the bokeh, the contrast... everything is simply perfect.

I kind of wish I couldn't see the difference because the 50/1.4 is not exactly cheap. I wonder if the 50/1.8 (about 1/4 the cost) is comparably lovely?

I own both the 50mm/1.8 and 50mm/1.4. Of course now that I bought the latter, the former tends to just sit in my cabinet!

Both lenses perform very well, the 1.4 doing just a little better in less light. The 1.8 has an FD motor, so no full-time manual focus like the 1.4.

I find both usable, and used the 1.8 for quite a while. The 1.4 however, is my new love.

My advice: go out and grab the 50mm/1.8. It can't be too pricey, and I'm sure you can grab one from eBay
