San Francisco Cable CarApril 12, 2006

San Francisco Cable Car

Notes:     This weekend I accompanied my husband on a trip to San Francisco, where he attended a conference and I traipsed around the city with a borrowed Digital Rebel in hand (thanks Chiaroscuro!).

This is one of the first photos I took, just moments after stepping out of the Embarcadero BART stop at Market and California streets. Knowing little about San Francisco public transportation, I assumed this was a streetcar, but it turns out to be a cable car which runs on rails and is pulled by a single cable (the California Street cable is 21,500 feet long!) which runs under the street.

Location:     Looking west up California Street from Market Street, Financial District, San Francisco, California
Camera:     Canon EOS 300D Digital Rebel, Sigma 55-200mm f/4-5.6
EXIF:     1/400 sec, F/5.0, 134 mm (214 mm equivalent), slightly cropped, ISO-100

great first shot! there's a poster very similar to this taken during the 50's I think.

I recently tried recreating it. I hvaen't scanned my shot yet, hopefully in the next week or so. I just finally got around to developing that roll.

hopefully you enjoyed your trip here

Nice black & white shot from SF.
One of my dreams is to travel to SF to visit this great city.
