Cloves and CinnamonNovember 15, 2005

Location:     Baltimore, MD
Camera:     Canon PowerShot Pro1
EXIF:     1/6 sec, F/3.5, 23 mm, Super Macro feature
Notes:     Lately I've been photographing food, which makes it hard to find a good photo for a black and white photoblog. I've found that food tends to look pretty scary in black and white. I guess it taps into whatever instincts we have not to eat food that isn't brightly colored or something.

Even these cloves, which are brown to begin with, look pretty creepy to me in monochrome. I think these look sort of like bones lying atop ashes. I put it in sepia to sort of soften the effect, but I'm still not sure about it. What do you think?

I much prefer "autumn flavors" on your white light blog. When I don't think about the subject, I do enjoy the textures, light, and dof. But, unfortunately, the first word that came to mind when I saw the photo as a whole was "spores."

I think you might be right about that we want food to be in bright colours. I think this shot looks like a microscope picture of some virus ;) But I like it! It's interesting :)
