The Gates in Black and White, IFebruary 28, 2005

Location: Harlem Meer, Central Park, New York, NY

I really didn't do a great job of conceptualizing The Gates in black and white. I think the color version is much more striking.

i, too, had a hard time with my black and white shots at the gates. it was really hard to think about draining all the color of the scenery and conceptualizing that brilliant orange as a mid-grey. i really like the framing and max dof on this one though, i think it's really nice.

I like the colour one better. For me unless there are shadows or two main subjects in the picture I prefer to keep it coloured. Shadows is what you have named your black and white blog too.

You know, I really like the b/w version. Don't know why.

The photo itself has a good perspective. I do feel that the colour version has more impact, capturing the essence of the gates.
