| Depth of Field | February 14, 2005 |
As explained in more detail on my color photoblog, I was playing around with using various depths of field. Here is my front stair railing, first with a large aperture... Canon PowerShot S30 ![]()
Canon PowerShot S30 ![]() I think I prefer the first one (the one with a wide aperture and a limited DOF) to the second. Which do you like better? | |

Hm... I sort of wish that the focused part of the rail was at the very bottom instead of somewhat in the middle. Which is probably why I like the second one better. The second one also seems to have more of a gradiation of focus than the first one- which I find to be very appealing. Posted by: Laura Semesky at February 15, 2005 12:13 AM
Laura is right, the first one might be better if the focus was moved down the rail. Posted by: Andreas at February 15, 2005 05:53 AM
I like the first one better because it seems like the rail is fading to some mysterious/ambiguous space. Hmmm ... wonder whether it would have been better if you the focus was at the top of the rail. Posted by: Mydepiction at February 15, 2005 06:39 PM
personally, i like the first one the best. also, i tend to disagree with the previous comments: i like the focus in the middle of the railing, where its at. it tends to make your eyes move down the rail and then through the rest of the picture (for me at least). i also like the symmetry of the sidewalk below.
