Nice shot. It looks dirty and gritty, very industrial. Posted by: Stuart at January 3, 2005 05:00 AM
I like it--the subtle difference of the smoke on cloud is cool. Although for me, the proper shot will always be from 395, where all you can see is a big pipe with "Baltimore" on it, belching smoke into the air. It was one of my first impressions of Baltimore, and gave me pause. Posted by: Matt C. at January 3, 2005 04:05 PM
Nice. I like the simplicity and graininess. Posted by: VISUAL FIELD at January 3, 2005 10:28 PM
Great picture; my father was part of the team that designed the RESCO plant, it holds a special place in my heart. Posted by: Greg at January 4, 2005 12:57 PM
~oddly enough I was just in Baltimore over New Year's and drove past the stadium several times, I am trying to remember if I saw this or not...as a Steeler season ticket holder I mainly ignored the Raisins, errrr, Ravens, Sstadium (lol)~ Posted by: btezra at January 4, 2005 04:26 PM
Update from my father, who helped design the plant: "it isn't smoke...just moisture (water) condensing in the cold air...it's all very clean!" Posted by: Greg at January 5, 2005 09:19 AM
Thanks Greg, for your comments. That's pretty cool that your father was involved in designing the RESCO plant. I wonder if it ever occurred to him that it would become a view that people would associate with the Baltimore skyline. Good point about the "smoke" actually being moisture, because I think a lot of plants actually give off moisture, even though uninformed observers often assume that it's pollution! I remember learning about this when I was younger, I was driving with my parents and I commented about all the pollution from the smoke stacks we were passing. I was relieved to hear that it was just steam I was seeing and that there are regulations about how much pollution you can just spout off into the air! By the way , that is not smoke coming from that stack. Its kind of like steam condensating . Check their emissions record on line . Posted by: at April 28, 2008 06:43 AM
